Ketanji Brown Jackson Enters Confirmation Hearings With Stronger Public Support Than At Least The Last Six Justices
With Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson set to begin her confirmation hearings, public polling shows that Jackson enters her hearings with stronger public support at this point in the confirmation process than at least the last six Supreme Court justices.
Jackson’s pre-hearing support dramatically outpaces that of each of Donald Trump’s three Court nominees:
- A Morning Consult poll found more Americans want the Senate to vote to confirm Jackson by a +29 point margin, far better than Morning Consult’s numbers at this point for Amy Coney Barrett (+3), Brett Kavanaugh (+12), or Neil Gorsuch (+18).
- YouGov found Jackson’s net confirmation support at +18, compared to their +0 for Barrett, +6 for Kavanaugh, and +14 for Gorsuch. They also found Jackson was much more likely to be viewed as moderate than Barrett, Kavanaugh, and Gorsuch were.
- A Pew Research Center poll found more Americans want the Senate to confirm Jackson by a +26 point lead, significantly higher than Pew Research’s numbers for Kavanaugh (+5) and Gorsuch (+12) at this point in their nominations.
According to data compiled in 2020 by The Economist, Jackson’s net support is also higher than both Obama-appointed justices and than Justice Samuel Alito.
