Demand Justice Statement on Supreme Court Allowing Florida Poll Tax on Formerly Incarcerated Individuals
Fallon: ‘John Roberts Has Never Met a Voter Suppression Effort He Wasn’t Willing to Uphold’
WASHINGTON, DC—Demand Justice Executive Director Brian Fallon released the following statement Thursday after the Supreme Court left in place Florida’s pay-to-vote system for formerly incarcerated individuals:
“This should be a rude awakening for anyone lured into a false sense of security by John Roberts’ votes in a handful of cases this term. When it comes to election matters, he acts as a partisan Republican. Roberts has never met a voter suppression scheme he wasn’t willing to uphold. From his years working in the Reagan administration, Roberts has spent a good deal of his career making it harder for black and brown people to vote. As we barrel towards an election Republicans have made clear they will stop at nothing to steal, they will have an ally in the Republican majority on the Supreme Court.”
