Demand Justice Statement on Confirmation of Controversial Judicial Nominee Menashi

WASHINGTON, DC—On Thursday, Demand Justice Chief Counsel Christopher Kang released the following statement after Senate Republicans confirmed Steven Menashi, a White House attorney who may have been involved in the Ukraine scandal coverup, to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals:

“Republicans have abdicated their constitutional responsibility by confirming Menashi even though he refused to answer many critical questions. Stonewalling the Senate is now a viable path to confirmation. Even more troubling is the fact that Republicans voted to promote a man who may have helped orchestrate the coverup of the Ukraine scandal. This is a startling reminder of how far they will go to protect Trump and to corrupt our courts. They view the courts only as a means to cement conservative policies, instead of a branch of our government that upholds democracy.”
