Activists Protest Federalist Society Dinner Honoring Kavanaugh by Calling Back to Christine Blasey Ford

WASHINGTON, DC—As The Federalist Society honored Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh at its annual dinner at Union Station on Thursday, Demand Justice and Center for Popular Democracy Action joined activists in showing support for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault and testified about it during his confirmation process.

In addition to the protest, Demand Justice commissioned a mobile billboard displaying a photo of Blasey Ford and the phrase, “We still believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford,” to drive around the hotel at which The Federalist Society is hosting its convention this weekend; a video billboard at Union Station playing Blasey Ford’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee; and banners reading, “Kavanaugh Lied.” Women dressed as handmaids from The Handmaid’s Tale were also present at the protest.

“The Federalist Society is trying to rehabilitate a credibly accused sexual predator, and we will not allow them to forget Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh’s other accusers,” said Demand Justice Senior Counsel Katie O’Connor. “Kavanaugh is not the hero of this story. We still believe Christine Blasey Ford, and we won’t let him forget that. Putting on a new robe can’t be allowed to erase credible accusations of sexual assault.”

During Kavanaugh’s confirmation process, he claimed that Blasey Ford’s accusations “totally and permanently destroyed” his name. While he is being feted by official Washington organizations, Dr. Blasey Ford was forced to move from her home and has been unable to return to work due to ongoing threats.

Earlier on Thursday, Demand Justice announced an ad campaign targeting Federalist Society donors and calling on them to withdraw their support. Demand Justice has also called on the House of Representatives to look into the sham FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh.
