Washington, DC– On Wednesday, President Trump’s anounced via Truth Social that he plans to nominate Emil Bove III to a judgeship on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Bove is formerly Trump’s personal attorney who defended the President against criminal hush money charges, and has been a top enforcer in Trump’s Department of Justice for the last five months. He was at the center of efforts by the Trump administration to dismiss the corruption charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams so Adams would help Trump implement his cruel immigration policies.
In response to his nomination, Demand Justice Interim Executive Director Maggie Jo Buchanan released the following statement:
“Let’s speak plainly: Emil Bove is being nominated to a circuit court seat because of his proven loyalty to Trump. Bove has demonstrated time and time again his willingness to use his position to advance even the most dangerous and extreme actions of this administration.
“Trump’s actions since returning to office–including attacks on judges, defiance of court orders, and now this nomination–have demonstrated his disregard for our rule of law. Now, however, all eyes must turn to the Senate.
“Any member of that chamber that purports to respect our system of governance must reject this nominee as antithetical to the foundational values of our nation and our courts.”
The 3rd Circuit has jurisdiction over federal courts in New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.
