Washington, DC–Following news that late last night Leader Schumer reportedly agreed to a deal with Senate Republicans that would require pulling four circuit court nominees, Demand Justice Managing Director Maggie Jo Buchanan released the following statement:
“Any deal that would result in President Biden’s four remaining circuit court nominees being denied a vote is categorically unacceptable. These are critical seats that have real impacts on everyday Americans–we cannot allow Trump to fill them with radical extremists.
“Giving up is not an option. We know what is coming in the new administration. Willingly gifting Donald Trump the chance to appoint judges more committed to political agendas than the rule of law is doing a dangerous disservice to the American people.
“If Democratic Senators are already rolling over this easily while they still have power, we are in for trouble when Trump actually assumes office. We need leadership that’s up for a fight–and that starts now.”
As of Thursday, November 21, there are still 24 nominees in limbo, with 17 awaiting Senate floor action and 7 waiting for Senate Judiciary action.
