Rep. Ayanna Pressley Joins Hundreds of Activists and Survivors at ‘Reclaim the Court’ Rally to Protest Kavanaugh
WASHINGTON, DC—On the one-year anniversary of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court, Demand Justice, Center for Popular Democracy Action, and Women’s March were joined by US Representative Ayanna Pressley along with hundreds of activists and sexual assault survivors to protest Kavanaugh and the sham process that led to Senate Republicans granting him a lifetime seat on the highest court in the land.
The rally in front of the Supreme Court in Washington, DC on Sunday kicked off with a speaking program that included remarks from Pressley, a survivor herself and an outspoken critic of Kavanaugh who recently introduced a resolution calling for an impeachment inquiry into the newest justice.
“Kavanaugh may have that seat – for now – but what we are fighting for is so much bigger than one insecure man blinded by his privilege,” she said.
A diverse group of speakers, many of whom came out to protest Kavanaugh’s confirmation process a year before at the People’s Filibuster, shared their stories of surviving sexual assault and spoke out against Kavanaugh and the senators who confirmed him to the Court despite the multiple credible sexual assault allegations against him.
After the speaking portion, protestors blocked off the street in front of the Supreme Court building with caution tape that read, “#RECLAIMTHECOURT,” then marched to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s house chanting, “Our courts are not for sale!”
