NEW AD: COLLINS WOULD BE BREAKING HER WORD TO VOTE FOR KAVANAUGH AFTER BOMBSHELL EMAIL SHOWS HE DISPUTED ROE AS ‘SETTLED LAW’
New Maine Ad Says ‘If Collins Votes for Kavanaugh Now, She’ll Be Breaking Her Word’
WASHINGTON, DC—Demand Justice is releasing a new TV and digital ad on Tuesday stating that Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) will be “breaking her word” if she votes for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh after new evidence shows he disputed the idea Roe v. Wade was “settled law.”
The 30-second spot juxtaposes Collins’ prior statement that Kavanaugh must consider Roe to be “settled law” in order to earn her vote with a leaked email suggesting that Kavanaugh believes otherwise. The ad features a Portland Press Herald headline noting that Kavanaugh “disputed the idea that Roe v. Wade settled law.”
The ad declares that should Collins vote to confirm Kavanaugh, not only would she be going back on her promise to defend women’s rights, but also she’d be responsible for the evisceration of Roe v. Wade.
The ad is the fourth aired in Maine by Demand Justice since the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. A transcript of the ad appears below.
TRANSCRIPT OF “BOMBSHELL”
VOICEOVER: Susan Collins told Mainers she’d have a simple test for Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee.
CLIP OF SUSAN COLLINS: “What is important to me is: does Judge Kavanaugh consider Roe to be settled law?”
VOICEOVER: But a leaked email just revealed Kavanaugh’s true views on abortion––he disputes that Roe v. Wade is ‘settled law.’
Kavanaugh fails Collins’ own test.
If she votes for him now, she won’t just be breaking her word, she’ll be responsible for gutting Roe.
