DEMAND JUSTICE STATEMENT REGARDING SENATOR GILLIBRAND’S PLEDGE TO ONLY APPOINT JUDGES WHO WILL UPHOLD ROE

WASHINGTON, DC––Demand Justice Executive Director Brian Fallon released the following statement Tuesday in response to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s announcement that she will only appoint judges who commit to upholding Roe v. Wade:

“It should not be controversial to expect that federal judges would uphold a decades-old precedent such as Roe, but Donald Trump introduced a new normal when he pledged in 2016 to only appoint pro-life justices. Senator Gillibrand’s commitment is a smart and necessary response to the many assaults on Roe that are well underway in states across the country. Future Democratic presidents simply cannot leave the fate of Roe to chance when it comes to their judicial nominees.

“Senator Gillibrand has quickly emerged as one of the most consistent allies in the fight against Donald Trump’s court-packing. Others ought to immediately follow her lead in vowing to only nominate judges who will commit to upholding Roe.”
