DEMAND JUSTICE STATEMENT ON SENATE DEMOCRATS’ WARNING TO SUPREME COURT TO STOP PLAYING POLITICS OR FACE STRUCTURAL REFORM

WASHINGTON, DC—Demand Justice Executive Director Brian Fallon released the following statement Wednesday regarding the brief filed with the Supreme Court by U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and four other Senate Democrats urging the Court to avoid playing politics on a potential gun rights case or else risk increased calls for structural reform of the Court:

“This filing is a badass move by these Senate Democrats. The Republican justices on the Supreme Court should be on notice that the public is quickly losing faith in the Court as a legitimate institution. If the Court insists on ruling on this gun case when the issue is already moot, it will show the Republicans on the Court are once again playing politics and the calls for structural reform will only grow louder.”
