WASHINGTON, DC—Brian Fallon, Executive Director of Demand Justice, released the following statement Wednesday in response to reports that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s plans to invoke the “nuclear option” to change Senate rules and jam through more of President Trump’s extreme judicial nominees:

“This is a Republican hijacking of the third branch of government. If Mitch McConnell goes forward with this plan, he will be setting a new precedent that it is OK to change the Senate rules in order to get more of your preferred judges onto the federal bench. When Democrats regain power, they must return the favor and also be willing to change the filibuster rules in order to add judges who can restore balance and legitimacy to the courts.”
