DEMAND JUSTICE RESPONSE TO MICHAEL BENNET’S CRITICISM OF HARRY REID’S PAST HANDLING OF JUDGES

Bennet Was Asked on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ About his ‘F’ Grade in Demand Justice’s Report Card

WASHINGTON, DC—Demand Justice Executive Director Brian Fallon released the following statement Sunday after Colorado Senator Michael Bennet, in an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, defended his voting record on Trump judges and renewed his criticism of Harry Reid’s effort in 2013 to overcome Republican obstruction of Barack Obama’s nominees:

“Michael Bennet is a good and honorable man, he just has exactly the wrong mindset for dealing with the bad-faith approach of today’s Republican Party.

“When Mitch McConnell changed the Senate rules last month to help Donald Trump pack the courts even more quickly, Bennet’s response was to attack his own side and suggest Harry Reid was to blame for McConnell’s actions. He even apologized to Republicans on the Senate floor.

“Bennet continues to support two out of every three Trump judges, even though they will be awful on climate change, health care and reproductive rights. Donald Trump is rigging the courts, and Michael Bennet is helping him do it. We need Senate Democrats to understand the stakes of what is happening to our third branch of government, not turn the other cheek to Mitch McConnell.”
