DEMAND JUSTICE AIRS NEW TV ADS IN INDIANA, NORTH DAKOTA, WEST VIRGINIA URGING OPPOSITION TO SUPREME COURT PICK KAVANAUGH OVER PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS
New Ads Thank Senators Donnelly, Heitkamp, Manchin and Urge Continued Support for Health Coverage for Those with Pre-Existing Conditions
WASHINGTON, DC—Following the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court on Monday, Demand Justice began airing new digital and TV ads Friday to urge red-state Senate Democrats to oppose Kavanaugh in order to protect people with pre-existing conditions.
The 30-second spots, which will run in Indiana, North Dakota, and West Virginia, as well as on social media, spotlight the senators’ past protection of coverage for those with pre-existing conditions. But the ads note Kavanaugh declined to join a ruling upholding these key patient protections in 2011 and could vote against them again if a new lawsuit challenging the Affordable Care Act should reach the Supreme Court. The Trump administration recently joined that lawsuit, opting against defending the ACA in court and seeking to have the law’s protections for preexisting conditions overturned.
The ad urges listeners to call their senators to tell them to continue fighting for people with pre-existing conditions by opposing Kavanaugh.
A transcript of the West Virginia version of the ad appears below.
Thanks to Senator Joe Manchin, more than 700,000 West Virginians with pre-existing conditions still have access to affordable health care.
But those protections are at risk again–this time, in the courts.
The Senate is about to consider Brett Kavanaugh to be the next Supreme Court justice.
Kavanaugh refused to uphold key patient protections in the past.
And if he joins the Court, he could vote to end these protections for good.
Tell Senator Manchin to keep fighting for people with preexisting conditions. Vote no on Brett Kavanagh.
Paid for by Demand Justice.
