New Poll: Americans See Trump’s Attacks On The Courts As Dangerous Abuse Of Power And A Direct Threat To The Rights Of Everyday People

WASHINGTON — A new poll from Global Strategy Group and Demand Justice reveals that voters in 2026 Senate battleground states are alarmed by Trump and his allies in Congress’ escalating attacks on the rule of law and judicial independence. The survey was featured in a story in The Hill this morning.
The poll, conducted between May 28 and June 1, finds that Americans across the political spectrum are deeply concerned by Trump’s refusal to follow court orders, his threats to impeach judges for simply ruling against him, and his efforts to stack the judiciary with loyalists that prioritize him and his personal interests over the Constitution.
The polling found that their biggest concern is how these attacks will impact their rights and freedoms. Demand Justice is addressing those concerns with its recently launched Justice Under Siege campaign, which highlights Trump and Republicans’ systematic attacks on the rule of law and the judiciary. The campaign calls on all of us, including elected officials at every level, to stand up for our rights and freedoms.
In response to this new polling on Trump’s continued attacks on the rule of law, Demand Justice Interim Executive Director Maggie Jo Buchanan released the following statement:
“The data is clear: Americans increasingly reject Donald Trump’s attacks on the rule of law and the courts. Over two-thirds are concerned about this blatant disregard for court orders and the threat that it poses to the rights of every person in this country.
“When Trump treats judicial rulings as mere suggestions instead of legally binding obligations, it sends a chilling message that our legal protections are meaningless. An overwhelming majority of Americans across the political spectrum are concerned that this calculated defiance sets a precedent where individuals may face unfair trials, see their rights disregarded without consequence, and find themselves powerless to seek justice.
“Further, the American people recognize that allies of the President, such as Congressional Republicans, are carrying out their own, coordinated attacks on the justice system that are also deeply damaging for our country. The American people know that this is not how our democracy is meant to function–and they broadly recognize that there will be serious consequences to our constitutional order if their elected officials do not fight back.”
