NEW DEMAND JUSTICE AD WARNS OF TRUMP TRYING TO USE RUSHED BARRETT CONFIRMATION TO DECIDE ELECTION
National TV Spot is Part of Ongoing Multi-Million Dollar Buy
WASHINGTON, DC— On Friday, Demand Justice announced a new national television ad warning about Donald Trump’s admission that he is rushing through Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination because he expects the Supreme Court to decide the presidential election.
The ad will air as part of a previously announced multi-million dollar ad campaign to build opposition to confirming Trump’s pick before the election.
“There is no mystery about why Donald Trump is rushing this pick before the election: he thinks installing Amy Coney Barrett will be his insurance plan in case he isn’t able to win the election fair and square,” said Demand Justice Executive Director Brian Fallon.
Barrett has repeatedly refused to promise to recuse herself from cases following the 2020 election. During the nationally televised presidential debate, Trump admitted that he is “counting on” the Supreme Court to “review the ballots.”
A copy of the ad’s script appears below:
Narrator: A giant on the Supreme Court has died. How do Trump and McConnell respond? They swoop right in to put a justice in the seat for life. Why?
Don Lemon (CNN anchor): “The president says it right out loud: he wants his justice on the Supreme Court because he thinks the Court will decide the election.”
Narrator: “He won’t let voters choose. He wants the Supreme Court to decide. With this lifetime appointment, it’s all on the line. Let the voters be heard. Do it right.”
