Judiciary Act Update: Rep. Waters Joins as Co-Sponsor

JUDICIARY ACT UPDATE: REP. WATERS JOINS AS CO-SPONSOR

Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) has signed on as a co-sponsor of the Judiciary Act of 2021, which would add four seats to the Supreme Court.

Rep. Waters is the 37th House co-sponsor of the bill, which was introduced by the Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA). The Senate companion bill is sponsored by Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) and co-sponsored by Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN).

Rep. Waters is the ninth House co-sponsor to join the bill since the Supreme Court refused to block a Texas law that is the most extreme abortion ban in the country. She joins Reps. Cohen (D-TN), García (D-IL), Wilson (D-FL), Napolitano (D-CA), Payne (D-NJ), Meng (D-NY), Bass (D-CA), and Pingree (D-ME).
