Judiciary Act Update: Rep. Pingree Joins as Co-Sponsor

JUDICIARY ACT UPDATE: REP. PINGREE JOINS AS CO-SPONSOR

Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME-1) has joined as a co-sponsor of the Judiciary Act of 2021, which would add four seats to the Supreme Court.

Rep. Pingree is the 36th House co-sponsor of the bill, which was introduced by the Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA-4). The Senate companion bill is sponsored by Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) and co-sponsored by Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN).

Rep. Pingree is the eighth co-sponsor to join the bill since the Supreme Court refused to block a Texas law, which is the most extreme abortion ban in the country. She joins Reps. Cohen (D-TN-9), García (D-IL-4), Wilson (D-FL-24), Napolitano (D-CA-32), Payne (D-NJ-10), Meng (D-NY-6) and Bass (D-CA-37).
