Washington, DC– Today Demand Justice released the third and final brief in the series, The State of Our Courts, which focuses on the makeup of the lower courts while calling on lawmakers to prioritize judicial confirmations through the remainder of 2024.

The third brief, which can be found here, focuses on the makeup of the powerful Courts of Appeals and examines the likely impact the next president will have on the trajectory of the judiciary.

“The next president will have the opportunity to shape our courts, with the balance of many Circuits at stake. At the same time, the Senate must continue to fill as many vacancies as possible this Congress,” said Demand Justice Managing Director Maggie Jo Buchanan. “Lawmakers must keep working to bring balance and fairness to the federal judiciary.”

As the brief notes, “From protections for consumers and workers, to basic human rights and freedom, the federal courts at all levels have an enormous impact on American life. The make-up of these courts, determined by elected officials, are critically important in ensuring that our federal courts are ruling with the public’s best interests in mind.”
