DEMAND JUSTICE UNVEILS NEW TV AD URGING SUPREME COURT EXPANSION TO PROTECT REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS

Ad follows new polling showing public backlash to Supreme Court allowing Texas to ban abortions at six weeks

WASHINGTON, DC—On Thursday, Demand Justice announced a six-figure, TV ad campaign highlighting the need to expand the Supreme Court to protect reproductive rights.

The ad follows the Supreme Court functionally overturning Roe v. Wade in Texas by allowing a six-week abortion ban to go into effect, and it comes on the heels of the Court announcing it will hear arguments in a case about a Mississippi ban on December 1st

Three polls in the past week have shown a substantial drop in approval of the Supreme Court following the Texas decision, and two of the polls, including one released Thursday, show the Court’s approval falling to an all-time low.

Rev. Dr. Stephany Rose Spaulding– founder of Truth and Conciliation, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Colorado Springs and a leader in the Just Democracy coalition — appears on screen and makes the case for Court expansion in her own words, saying:

For women of color, the fight for reproductive health has been especially dark — forced sterilizations, operations without anaesthesia, our babies taken away.

So when the Supreme Court lets Texas rip away a woman’s right to her own body, now the entire country understands: democracy without bodily autonomy is not democracy.

The Judiciary Act restores balance to the Supreme Court by adding seats to it. We must pass it.

Since the Supreme Court allowed the Texas law to go into effect, six members of the House of Representatives have signed onto The Judiciary Act of 2021 as co-sponsors, and Sen. Tina Smith has announced her support for adding seats to the Court.
