DEMAND JUSTICE TO HOST 150+ BLACK LAW STUDENTS, PUBLIC DEFENDERS IN D.C. FOR WATCH PARTIES DURING JACKSON CONFIRMATION HEARING

One-hundred students and fifty public defenders will visit Washington for programming to include rallies in support of Jackson, watch parties, and an educational dinner.

WASHINGTON, DC— More than 100 Black law students and public defenders from across the country will visit Washington, D.C. for events celebrating the confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

The collaboration among Demand Justice, National Black Law Student Association, and Black Public Defender Association will bring approximately 100 law students enrolled at 17 law schools and dozens of public defenders from 11 states across the country to D.C. on the Monday and Tuesday of Jackson’s confirmation hearings.

Participants will take part in rallies celebrating Jackson’s nomination outside the Capitol, watch parties nearby the hearings, and information sessions about applying for judgeships and jobs as public defenders.

At an earlier educational event, U.S. District Court Judge Richard Boulware, who was a federal public defender for 11 years before becoming a judge, will keynote a public dinner on Sunday and discuss the importance of professional diversity in our courts.
