Demand Justice Statement on Supreme Court Overturning Roe v. Wade

WASHINGTON, DC— In response to news that the Republican justices on the Supreme Court have overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, Demand Justice Executive Director Brian Fallon issued the following statement:

“Republicans have realized the goal of their decades-long campaign to capture the Supreme Court. The question now is whether Democrats will fight back with a plan that matches the scale of the crisis.”

“It’s time for Democrats who say they want to fight back against the illegitimate Supreme Court majority to embrace the one plan that can actually deliver on that promise: Supreme Court expansion. The Supreme Court is the heart of the problem, and any plan to address it has to include a plan to defang the Republican Supreme Court majority that plunged us into this crisis. Democrats who fail to embrace Court reform are accepting a future where abortion is illegal for millions of Americans, and they will have to answer to their constituents about why they believe that is an acceptable outcome.”

A June poll conducted by Hart Research on behalf of Demand Justice found that Americans in Senate battleground states preferred the Court to uphold Roe by a 23 point magin.
