WASHINGTON, DC— Following the Senate’s confirmation of Judge Beth Robinson to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, converting this bench to a majority Democratic-appointed court, Demand Justice Chief Counsel Christopher Kang released the following statement:

“President Biden’s laser-like focus on quickly nominating highly-qualified, professionally diverse judges is paying off at the all-important courts of appeal level. In partnership with Leader Schumer and Senator Leahy, President Biden has appointed to the Second Circuit three champions for equal justice under the law who demonstrate his deep commitment to bringing more professional diversity to the bench.”

When President Biden assumed office, there were 7 Republican-appointed active judges on the Second Circuit and 6 appointed by Democrats. The Senate has now confirmed three Biden nominees to the court: Judges Eunice Lee, Myrna Pérez, and Beth Robinson.here are now 7 Democratic-appointed judges on this 13-member court.

With the confirmation of Judge Robinson, Biden has doubled the number of women on the court and increased the number of professionally diverse judges from the time he took office. Lee is a former public defender, Perez a voting rights expert, and Robinson a civil rights lawyer.
