DEMAND JUSTICE STATEMENT ON RUTH BADER GINSBURG’S DEATH

WASHINGTON, DC — Demand Justice Executive Director Brian Fallon released the following statement following news that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died:

“We will honor Justice Ginsburg’s legacy by fighting to protect it. The precedent Republicans set in 2016 is crystal clear and must be followed now: no justice should be considered until after the inauguration in January. We will make sure Senate Republicans in key states understand the political peril they will face for trying to install a Trump supermajority on the Court in the twilight of his presidency.

“Make no mistake: any Supreme Court with a Trump justice confirmed to Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat at this point in the calendar would be fundamentally illegitimate, and Democrats must be prepared to act accordingly.”

Demand Justice will spend $10 million to fight to ensure no justice is confirmed before the January inauguration.

Demand Justice, in collaboration with NARAL Pro-Choice America, Indivisible, the Center for Popular Democracy and dozens of organizations, will host a vigil on the steps of the Supreme Court at PM on Saturday, September 19.
