Washington, DC – On Tuesday the Senate voted on the nomination of Kyle Dudek to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, confirming the nominee 53-44. Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) became the first Democrat to vote alongside Republican senators on a judicial nominee this congress, confirming Dudek to a lifetime federal judgeship.

In response, Demand Justice Director of Courts Policy and Legal Analysis Tom Wright released the following statement

“There is no legitimate reason for any Democrat to vote for a single one of Trump’s judicial nominees given the lawless actions of his administration and his attacks on the federal courts. Senator Welch has helped to confirm a Trump nominee with an extensive history of defending misconduct by police officers and government officials, and who will now serve out a lifetime position on the federal bench. Helping to confirm judicial nominees who have been plainly chosen for their loyalty to Trump does an incredible disservice to the American people–and will impact their rights for decades to come. ”
