DEMAND JUSTICE PRAISES GEORGIA JUDICIAL NOMINEES AND SENATORS OSSOFF AND WARNOCK
WASHINGTON, DC—On Thursday, following news of President Biden’s nomination of lawyers with experience in public defense and civil rights for federal judgeships in Georgia, Demand Justice Chief Counsel Christopher Kang issued the following statement:
“Victoria Calvert and Sarah Geraghty would bring critical experience in public defense and civil rights to a federal bench that is dominated by former prosecutors and corporate lawyers. We applaud Senators Ossoff and Warnock for recommending them and fully embracing President Biden’s vision to bring balance to our courts.”
Victoria Calvert has been a Staff Attorney at the Federal Defender Program in Atlanta, Georgia since 2012, and if confirmed, she would be the first former federal defender to become a district court judge in Georgia. Sarah Geraghty is Senior Counsel at the Southern Center for Human Rights, where she has worked extensively on civil rights litigation, and previously was a Staff Attorney with the Office of the Appellate Defender in New York.
