Demand Justice Launches New “Justice Under Siege” Campaign to Counter Trump and His Allies’ Attacks on the Legal System

Washington, DC – Today, Demand Justice announced the launch of “Justice Under Siege,” a campaign to expose and counter President Trump’s exploitation of his office, including repeated defiance of lawful court orders, to take a sledgehammer to our system of checks and balances and the rule of law.
The campaign will track the various ways Trump and his MAGA supporters are working to dismantle judicial independence, defy court orders, weaponize the Department of Justice, and attack lawyers and law firms—all in service of advancing their extreme, unpopular Project 2025 agenda.
Demand Justice Interim Executive Director Maggie Jo Buchanan issued the following statement:
“Since his inauguration, President Trump has repeatedly defied lawful court orders on issues ranging from illegally firing thousands of public servants to deporting lawful U.S. residents without due process. Through our ‘Justice Under Siege’ campaign, we’ll systematically document and expose this pattern of attacks on the rule of law, which is made even more alarming by his allies in Congress who aren’t just letting Trump get away with it, but actively participating through threats to defund courts, legislative stunts to take away the ability of the judiciary to check Trump’s overreach, and baseless impeachment efforts against judges whose rulings they disagree with.
“When a president places himself above the law and undermines our courts, everyone’s rights are at risk. Without a judicial branch providing a check on the executive, Trump and his allies would have free rein to gut reproductive freedoms, limit healthcare access, dismantle environmental protections, and make our kids’ schools less safe while advancing their Project 2025 agenda to cut billionaires’ taxes at the expense of the middle class. This isn’t about politics — it’s about preserving the constitutional foundations that protect all Americans.”
The Campaign
This multi-faceted initiative will combine rigorous documentation, expert analysis, and broad-based public engagement to safeguard America’s judicial independence against unprecedented political pressure.
Tactics will include:
- Six-figure paid media campaign to put pressure on Trump and his allies in Congress and beyond for their attacks on judicial independence
- Fact sheets, research, and national polling on the implications of Trump’s attacks on the judiciary and the rule of law
- A new, weekly resource guide titled “Beseiged” that will provide campaign updates and essential information the public needs to know about the attacks on our constitutional order
- Public education initiatives on the importance of judicial independence and legislative threats to that independence
- Advocacy for long-term legislative safeguards to strengthen judicial independence
