Demand Justice Launches New Campaign Calling for Justice Samuel Alito to Recuse Himself from Election Cases and Urging Congress to Investigate

Six-figure campaign to include digital and television ad buy

Washington, DC – This week, Demand Justice is launching a new campaign calling on Associate Justice Samuel Alito to recuse himself from any election cases that make their way to the Supreme Court after the New York Times reported an upside down flag was flown outside his home after the January 6 attack on our nation’s Capitol. An upside down flag is a signal of extreme distress and was adopted by the Stop the Steal movement in the weeks leading up, during, and after the January 6 attack on our nation’s Capitol. Justice Alito claimed his wife flew the flag following January 6, 2021 because of politically-charged signs on a neighbor’s lawn.

The campaign also includes calls for Congress to investigate the Justice’s conduct and the way in which the Court has handled this matter.  

Last night, Demand Justice projected the image of an upside down flag on the Supreme Court with a call for Justice Alito to recuse and for Congress to investigate and reform. This week, Demand Justice will launch digital and television ads as part of the six-figure campaign. 

Demand Justice managing director Maggie Jo Buchanan said the following:

“The American people deserve a Supreme Court that will put the rule of law and the Constitution above all else. Unfortunately, Justice Alito has shown he cannot be trusted to rule fairly and impartially on any case concerning the 2020 election and attack on the U.S. Capitol. Alito must recuse and Congress must show the public they are willing to do their job by immediately launching an investigation to fully understand the extent of Alito’s clear ethics violations–as well as any steps the Chief Justice intends to take in order to safeguard the integrity of his Court.”

Americans need to count on our Supreme Court to deliver unbiased decisions that interpret our Constitution and bring justice.

So what do we do when a Supreme Court Justice flies the extremist flag at the same time he’s considering a case on the election they tried to overturn? 

We question Justice Samuel Alito’s impartiality. 

Call on him to recuse himself from all cases related to the 2020 election and call on Congress to investigate.
