DEMAND JUSTICE LAUNCHES AD CAMPAIGN THANKING SEN. SMITH FOR ENDORSING ADDING SEATS TO THE SUPREME COURT

WASHINGTON, DC— Following Sen. Tina Smith’s announcement that she supports eliminating the filibuster in order to pass legislation to both codify Roe and add seats to the Supreme Court, Demand Justice praised Smith’s leadership in response to the Texas abortion case and will begin a digital ad campaign in Minnesota. 

Smith joins two other senators who have explicitly endorsed calls to add seats to the Court – Sen. Ed Markey, the sponsor of the Judiciary Act of 2021, and Sen. Alex Padilla.

“Sen. Smith is showing other Senate Democrats the kind of comprehensive response needed for the Supreme Court’s unprecedented attacks on abortion access,” said Demand Justice Executive Director Brian Fallon. “Adding seats to the Supreme Court is an indispensable part of any plan to protect the constitutional right to abortion, and we are grateful for Sen. Smith’s leadership in this fight.”
