DEMAND JUSTICE ANNOUNCES NEW AD TYING SUSAN COLLINS TO KAVANAUGH’S VOTE AGAINST ABORTION RIGHTS

Ad follows Kavanaugh’s vote to limit access to legal abortion

WASHINGTON, DC— On Tuesday, Demand Justice announced a new paid ad campaign holding Sen. Susan Collins accountable for breaking her promise to protect Roe v. Wade with her vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh. The ad campaign’s launch follows Kavanaugh’s vote to gut Roe v. Wade and restrict abortion rights with his opinion in June Medical Services LLC v. Russo.

The campaign calls out Sen. Susan Collins for enabling Brett Kavanaugh’s attack on reproductive rights and will target Mainers on Facebook and Instagram.

The ad says: “When Susan Collins voted for Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court, she promised he would respect Roe v. Wade. And now? In a major case just decided by the Court, Kavanaugh proved he’ll use his seat to restrict abortion rights. Collins promised to protect women’s rights, but it was all a sham. And we won’t forget.”

The ad highlights Collins’ previous assertion that Brett Kavanaugh would respect precedent on abortion rights in light of his apparent disregard for precedent in June Medical.

“This term, Brett Kavanaugh has confirmed progressives’ worst fears about what he would be like as a Supreme Court justice. When Collins voted to confirm Kavanaugh, she broke her promise to protect Roe v. Wade,” said Demand Justice Executive Director Brian Fallon. “Collins must own Kavanaugh’s decision to restrict reproductive rights, and Mainers will hold her accountable for turning her back on women.”
