CHAKA KHAN, YOLANDA ADAMS TO PERFORM AT ‘HAVE HER BACK’ EVENT TO SALUTE KBJ AND THE ROLE OF PUBLIC DEFENDERS
WASHINGTON, DC— On Monday, March 28, in Washington, D.C., musical artists Chaka Khan and Yolanda Adams will headline a ‘Have Her Back’ tribute to Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s historic nomination and the important role that public defenders like her have played in our legal system.
The salute will also feature remarks by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a longtime champion of professional diversity on the federal bench, as well as National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) President & CEO April Frazier Camara and National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) Executive Director Lisa Monet Wayne.
The event follows Jackson’s widely praised performance testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee, during which she celebrated the critical service that public defenders and public interest lawyers provide. If confirmed, Jackson will be the first public defender ever to sit on the Supreme Court.
In addition to Demand Justice, NLADA and NACDL, partners for the event include Black Lives Matter, MoveOn and United State of Women.
The event will be held at Hamilton Live and, due to capacity limits at the indoor venue, will be a ticketed event for invited guests.
