Position Summary

 

Demand Justice Initiative seeks a Director of National Outreach and Engagement to lead our external relations, with a focus on identifying and cultivating new allies in our work to restore balance and legitimacy to the federal courts. This individual will serve as a member of the organization’s senior leadership team, and participate in our agenda-setting and long-term planning. This individual will also play a key role in the development and implementation of our issue advocacy campaigns that incorporate communications, digital strategy and grassroots organizing.

 

The position is based in Washington, DC, and reports to the Executive Director. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks

 

Serve as organization’s day-to-day liaison to our coalition partners and external stakeholders, including labor organizations, reproductive rights groups and the civil rights community.

 

Build external awareness of our work, and recruit new organizational allies to support our objectives and join in our grassroots actions.

 

Provide strategic advice regarding advocacy campaigns that incorporate communications, digital strategy and grassroots organizing, with the goal of involving as many outside partners as possible to maximize our impact.

 

Help develop branded materials and collateral that clearly communicates Demand Justice Initiative’s mission and activities to key outside audiences.

 

Devise and manage a departmental budget that smartly directs resources in ways that expand our organizational reach and influence.

 

Make public appearances at conferences, workshops, and other events as a senior-level representative of our organization.

 

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

7-9 years of experience in grassroots organizing, issue advocacy, or political campaign work.

 

Strong ties to the labor movement and/or reproductive rights organizations preferred.

 

Excellent project management skills. Proven ability to develop and implement a strategy from the concept phase to execution phase.

 

Strong leadership qualities with clear ability to inspire, building loyalty and enthusiasm among colleagues within the organization and among our outside partners.

 

Flexibility to travel to represent Demand Justice Initiative at conferences and convenings.
